Piccard Homes: How We Give Back

16 April 2013

Several months ago we introduced a new charity outreach program.  These local and national charities have been selected by our owners and employees which are located throughout the Eastern Shore, and the entire country. Piccard Homes will donate $1,000 from each new home or townhome sale in our community to one of the selected charities listed below:

Autism Speaks
Autism Speaks was founded in February 2005 by Bob and Suzanne Wright, grandparents of a child with autism. Their longtime friend Bernie Marcus donated $25 million to help financially launch the organization. Since then, Autism Speaks has grown into the world’s leading autism and science advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
When late entertainer Danny Thomas opened the doors to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 1962, he was not just changing the lives of children who would walk through its doors-he was changing lives across the world. When St. Jude completed its $1 billion, five-year expansion in 2005, it bolstered the hospital’s efforts to advance cures, and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. First Descents
First Descents offers young adult cancer fighters and survivors a free outdoor adventure experience designed to empower them to climb, paddle and surf beyond their diagnosis, defy their cancer, reclaim their lives and connect with others doing the same. Through conquering legitimate outdoor challenges, young adult survivors and fighters are able to push their limits and face their fears, and by doing so, they are able to regain confidence and self-efficacy lost to cancer. Safe Haven of Delaware
Safe Haven’s mission is to be a no kill safety net for the abused and abandoned animals who most desperately need help in Sussex County, Delaware. With a proactive adoption policy, they expect to care for 2,000 animals annually in their sanctuary. Animals who cannot be quickly adopted will receive long-term housing or will live out their natural lives at Safe Haven. They also help people of limited income in the community with pet food, spay/neuter, and medical care for pets in certain circumstances. For more information visit http://safehavende.org

Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Susan G. Komen is the boldest community fueling the best science and making the biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested almost $2 billion to fulfill our promise, working to end breast cancer in the U.S. and throughout the world through ground-breaking research, community health outreach, advocacy programs in more than 50 countries.
